On 10 -11th July 2009 The British Beach Polo Championships returns to Sandbanks, Poole for the second year. Top international players, celebrities and polo supporters will enjoy a festival of polo on the sand at Britain’s premier beach location. Six polo teams will compete for the title over the 2 days. There is also to be the added excitement of the England Beach Polo Team playing against the USA on both days.

Beach Polo is a variation of Arena Polo which is now very popular worldwide.  Beach Polo is played on the sand in an enclosed boarded arena measuring about 50 x 100 metres.  Other than it being 3 a side rather than 4 and using a different size ball the ponies and equipment are the same as conventional grass polo.  Beach Polo’s smaller playing area provides an intimate and exciting atmosphere for both players and spectators.  The polo ponies love the sand - they can accelerate and stop fast and can turn extremely sharply.  The players’ skill, in the saddle and with the ball, is tested to the full.

Sandbanks is probably the most exclusive beach community in the UK. It is easily accessible with a fast rail connection (100 minutes from London), good road access and 2 International airports within 45 minutes. The beach is unsurpassed holding a European Blue Flag (top accolade for beach cleanliness) for a record 20 years. There is the full range of accommodation, restaurants, bars and clubs.
